Born and raised on the plains of Kansas, Doug Miller received a BA in Art from Emporia State University. He began his professional art career in 1981 in Leavenworth, Washington, a charming Bavarian-style village nestled in the eastern slopes of the spectacular Cascade Mountain Range. The rugged wilderness and plentiful wildlife of the area have inspired many of his paintings over the years. Now residing in Wenatchee with his wife Barbara, Doug is operating his fourth gallery in Leavenworth, the birthplace of his career as a landscape painter. Doug travels extensively and hikes into various wilderness areas across western North America to photograph and paint on location. Plein air studies are important for capturing the true colors of the landscape. These studies are then enlarged back in his studio-gallery where refined brush strokes complete the painting. Doug's paintings have been acknowledged for numerous awards including "Best of Show" and "People's Choice" in annual art shows in both Ellensburg, Washington and Great Falls, Montana. He has been a Top 100 Finalist twice for the "Arts for the Parks" competition held annually in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. He continues learning and growing as a painter, with retirement out of the question. All images displayed in this site are protected under U.S. copyright laws.
